Course Description

Discuss the major career development foundations that underlie the modern practice of advising. Explore the essential components leading to employee and student success and retention whether in the workforce or in higher education. Discuss important issues facing career practitioners as they strive to help individuals make life decisions.

Course Details

Upon successful completion of the Career Development Foundations course, you will be able to:

  • Identify the key concepts of major career development theories.
  • Use career development theories to conceptualize specific cases.
  • Understand how career issues intersect with psychological, social, and environmental influences.

Due to the intensive nature of this course, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with course materials well before your first class.

This course will be delivered as a combination of asynchronous learning in Desire2Learn (D2L) and live sessions via Zoom.

The live sessions will be held in real time as follows:

Tuesdays & Thursdays, July 28 - August 13, 2020 6:00PM to 9:00PM MT

To fully participate in the live sessions you will need to have access to a reliable headset with microphone and a webcam.

Readings, group work and assignments will be required throughout the course duration and a final assignment may be due after the course has ended.

The instructor will post your course outline, materials, and information about course readings and other pre-work in D2L one week prior to the course start date. D2L may also be used for tests/quizzes and assignment submissions. Unlike correspondence or self-paced courses, your participation is required throughout your online course.
